Delta Electronics, Inc. won the "Outstanding Enterprise Award" for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in China today from China Business News (CBN). Delta was awarded the honor for its outstanding performance in environmental responsibility, stakeholder relations, social contributions, economic responsibility, and employee welfare. The award represents the jury's acclaim for Delta's efforts in promoting and realizing environmental protection and green energy while carrying out its corporate mission "To provide innovative, clean and energy-saving solutions for a better tomorrow," with innovation, R&D, and energy-saving solutions. Delta's CEO Mr. Ping Cheng attended the award presentation in Shanghai.
According to Mr. Cheng, "Since Delta's inception in 1971, we have specialized in R&D and innovation in energy conservation, and we have developed products that have contributed to the betterment of our global community. In 2011, our products successfully saved 3.3 billion kWh of energy, which is equivalent to the emissions of 2.02 million tons of carbon dioxide. This is our material contribution to energy conservation and carbon reduction. With our core belief in environmental protection and energy conservation, we have been proactive in participating in the community and have devoted ourselves to promoting green buildings and environmental education. Our beliefs match the theme of the CSR rankings in China for 2012: Benevolence Benefits People and Society—Pursuing Shared Value between Enterprises and Stakeholders."
Delta has engaged in the innovation and R&D of power management and improved the energy efficiency of its products every year. At present, the energy efficiency rate (EER) of all Delta products is higher than 90%, with communication and solar systems up to 97% and 98% EER respectively. Delta continuously develops renewable energy and various new energy technologies to diversify the scope of its businesses from IT into energy technology. Delta has demonstrated capabilities in such visionary businesses as solar generation systems, LED lighting, industrial automation, EV control systems, and general EV power systems. Delta has products and solutions covering the environmental protection industry, new energy industry, biotechnology industry, emerging information industry, and new-energy cars emphasized in its 12th Five-Year Plan.
For social contributions, Delta has sponsored the Delta Cup International Solar Energy Building Design Competition for four consecutive years. Delta has also funded the onsite construction of award-winning architecture for school buildings. For example, based on an award-winning plan in 2009, Delta built the Delta Sunshine Primary School in Yangjia Town in Mianyang, an affected area of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. This is the first full-scale green building campus in China. After a flood in Taiwan on August 8th 2009, Delta built a green building for the Minquan Elementary School. Besides the zero energy consumption of the school library, the elementary school became a shelter for 2,250 people during the flood season this year.
In addition, Delta has funded 187 technology development projects over the years in industry-academic cooperation with eight focus Chinese universities, including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and others. Delta has also organized 12 national electrical and electronics technology symposia, which has had a far-reaching effect on electrical and electronics technology education in China. Teaming up with Radio and Television Shanghai, Delta filmed a documentary on the Chinese environmental activist Congjie Liang to share with the public Liang's environmental protection concepts and heartwarming stories that promote environmental protection.
Among the most important CSR awards in China, the Corporate Social Responsibility Rankings in China were organized by China Business News (CBN), an authoritative financial media outlet of the Shanghai Media Group. The theme for the review in 2012 is: Benevolence Benefits People and Society
Pursuing Shared Value between Enterprises and Stakeholders. For the rankings, a professional jury rated the performance of enterprises along five different aspects to determine their CSR performance. These aspects included stakeholder relations, employee welfare, environmental responsibility, social contributions, and economic responsibility.
